A Lovely Place To Stay

This is a pub we visited in the past and the ambiance and feel of the quintessential English pub is still there. Great beers on tap with traditional bar. What was surprising to us was the new menu. It has a good combination of traditional English pub food (which, as visitors to the UK these days is appealing) and Indian dishes. These Indian dishes (although I only tried 2 starters) are clearly a significant step up from ordinary Indian restaurant fare. The traditional chicken tikka starter was delicious, delicately spiced and succulent, served with lemon to complement perfectly. The onion and okra bhaji was tasty and served with perfect chutneys. My two companions both had the haddock and chips, perfectly and lightly battered with lashings of tartare sauce (of critical importance to a good fish and chips 😁). Again, a dish so ordinary and well-known prepared at another, higher level. We unfortunately did not have time to do justice to this restaurant as we were racing to catch a train but the staff delivered the food promptly and with a smile. We ate in the bar which was snug and dog-friendly. I cannot recommend this place highly enough on many levels but I think that the menu is worthy of further exploration.Posted on Ephila Rose JolyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We tried the Pan Asian menu from the restaurant — the staff, Narendra, was really friendly and the food, especially the Chicken 65, was out of this world. We only ordered starters and customised them to be spicy. The Samosa Chaat was good, and the Fried Chicken Gyoza and Duck Spring Roll were also very tasty. I have personally asked for the chef to be complimented!Posted on John EllisTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing, just amazing curries!Posted on Julie WilliamsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Enjoyed a lovely lunch today with three friends. The food was very good and very well presented. Lovely to have a choice of both British and Asian food. The staff were very efficient, helpful, polite and friendy. The dining area was very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. All in all we had a very enjoyable few hours at The Marquiss of Exeter and we all said that we would return and recommend to family and friends!Posted on Kris SterlingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Tranquil village beautiful public housePosted on Brian GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We stayed for one night on the 25th of August and had dinner and breakfast here too. There is a large car-park and the hotel is in a very quiet, pretty village. The staff are exceptionally friendly. The room was adequate but needs refreshing, especially the mattress and the decor. I believe its under new ownership so they are just starting out and have taken it on as it is currently. The dinner was excellent, great choices and good service. Good wi-fi throughout the building and very quiet.

The Marquess of Exeter, a Grade ll listed pub, is on the site of a tavern that is thought to have existed since parish records began in 1563. The red limestone building is beautifully preserved. It has a series of interconnecting small rooms with low ceilings supported by fabulous wooden beams, inglenook fireplaces and gleaming flagstone floors. It really is most atmospheric which is no surprise since it seems to have been oozing character for hundreds of years.
Located in Lyddington, Marquess of Exeter will redefine the local scene with its unique fusion of Indian, Nepalese, Japanese, Pan-Asian cuisine alongside traditional British delicacies.
